With the bulk of the boring awards out of the way, we get to some more interesting ones as well as the first inductees to the Arbitrary Hall of Fame.
MOST ANTICIPATED GAME OF 2014
NOMINEES
Legend of Zelda (Wii-U) |
Final Fantasy XV |
Kingdom Hearts III |
Splatoon |
Star Fox (Wii-U) |
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |
Silent Hills |
AND THE WINNER IS...
BEST ONLINE OF 2014
NOMINEES
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft |
After Nintendo's failed attempts at online on the Wii, people became cautious when it came to online play on the new console. Nintendo proved first and foremost that this wasn't true with the new Super Smash Bros, whose online seems to work just as well as any other game out there, without the need to exchange any lengthy codes.
It's time to take some time out of our awards themselves to describe another feature we'd like to add. As we've said before, this is the prime opportunity to act like we know a lot in an industry that we don't have any experience in, so why not each year pick an outstanding member of this industry to put in our arbitrary Hall of Fame?
And so it was done, but not exactly since if we just put in one this year it would be kind of dumb since that would mean there is only one real member. So instead, here are your starting, original Hall of Famers:
Shigeru Miyamoto
Hideo Kojima
Shinji Mikami
Ken and Roberta Williams
Todd Howard
Yasumi Matsuno
Hideki Kamiya
Sam and Dan Houser
Eiji Aonuma
Hironobu Sakaguchi
Tetsuya Nomura
Yoko Shimomura
Nobuo Uematsu
Jake Kaufman
Koji Kondo
Tommy Tallarico
What, we're missing someone? Good -- it means we'll have someone to put for next year. Anyway, time to continue the awards.
BEST SHOOTER OF 2014
NOMINEES
Far Cry 4 |
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare |
Wolfenstein: The New Order |
AND THE WINNER IS...
2014 was a year where a lot of shooters came out, promising something big and ended up nothing. In addition to the games nominated, we also had Destiny, Borderlands, and Titanfall, all of which in one way or another failed to deliver. In case you were wondering why they weren't nominated, there you go.
Wolfenstein, admittedly, didn't promise a lot. It was a sequel to a game whose only real good entry was back in 1992. However, The New Order did something no other Wolfenstein game did: create a perfect atmosphere with gameplay that was highly enjoyable.
BEST RPG OF 2014
NOMINEES
Dark Souls II |
Bravely Default |
Child of Light |
AND THE WINNER IS...
Regardless of how good Dark Souls II was in relation to the first, it was still a very strong RPG in a year where not many RPGs were released. The game triumphs in at least this.
And so that's all for now. Wait until later for our final post, revealing the true best and worst of the year. Or don't if your reading this later on when they've already been posted. Whatever.
